If you want to become the face of professional modeling in the country, practice your walk and fierce poses and let confidence exude from within as the Professional Models Association of the Philippines (PMAP) just launched a search for the country’next model of influence.
Dubbed as Modele Philippines, the model search is a project of PMAP under the auspice of renowned fashion designer Renee Salud, in cooperation with Zen Institute and A Concept. The model hunt is open to both aspiring and experienced models with excellent potentials in becoming game changers in the country’s professional modeling. The competition will also give local designersan opportunity to promote and feature their brands.
Only 10 female and 10 male models will be chosen to be part of the contest that will run for a period of six weeks. Participating models will be under the tutelage of 20 experts in the country’s fashion industry. This is to prepare each participant for a tough battle of fashion and beauty and to hone each model to become the image of Philippine modeling industry in the global scene.
Four master classes will be conducted by fashion experts such as models, photographers, fashion directors and stylists. Experts include supermodels Joey Mead, Apples Aberin, Rissa Mananquil,Tweety de Leon,Marina Benipayo, Ariel Atendido, and top fashion directors Raymond Villanueva, Robbie Carmona, Jackie Aquino and Cata Figueroa, among others.
At the competition, models will have a chance to wear creations of top designers such as Randy Ortiz, Veejay Floresca, Avel Bacudio, Jerome Lorico, Pablo Cabahug and Ivarluski Aseron.
After each class, the models will face a preliminary challenge to test their ability to project in front of the camera and walk the runway. On the journey to becoming the Modele Philippines winner, the models will attend real go-sees and castings and present themselves as junior members of PMAP to real clients.
The finale will be held on April 2016, wherein only one male and one female winnerwill be chosen as the first ever Modele Philippines titlist.
The ball is now rolling with the first go-see held recently at Desiderate Lounge, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. Head of the committee is r0enowned fashion designer Renee Salud and judges were PMAP president Raphael Kiefer, outgoing president Angel Agustin-Co, PMAP officers Hye Won Jang, Girlie Benitez, Jai Ferrer, and Natasha Bautista. The Committee also includes Concon Sinel as head of creatives and Dr. MJ Torres, president of Zen Institute and A Concept.
Fifteen girls and six boys came to the go-see and showed their runway walk, face quality and body proportion. Since they are looking for the best, it means the model must not only be able to pull off the best walk and projection. The model must have an interesting personality.
“The judges interviewed the applicants because Modele is looking for models who can represent PMAP excellently, with vibrant personality and healthy attitude towards modeling as a profession,” said Sinel.
He also said that some of the female hopefuls were very tall, noting that one of the models, a 15-year-old girl, was six feet tall. The next go-see is slated next month. Models in Visayas and Mindanao will also have a chance to join as PMAP plans to hold screenings in Cebu and Davao.
